The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art (Warsaw, Poland)

The performance was the initiative of three students, out of their friendship and their shared passion for theatre, literature, cinema and pop culture. The text of the performance emerged during several months of conversations, improvisations and workshops. It is a sincere and personal attempt to come to terms with their attitude towards professed values, the artistic education system, the theatrical environment, and gender as a political and moral construct.

MEN'S TALK is a response to the well-known phenomenon of MENSPLAINING (described by Rebecca Solnit in her essay MAN EXPLAIN THINGS TO ME), when men explain the world - primarily to women and sexual minorities.

GROUP CALIFORNIA's performance is an attempt to capture the condition of a generation for whom the world, its existing norms and limitations are becoming insufficient, simply untrue, a generation for whom gender is not a limitation, and in a subversive, gender-queer context can redefine itself as a value and an inspiration. Awareness of the effacement of meanings does not absolve us from the search for answers to the question of what masculinity is, how identity is constructed and whether a reliance on authority is needed for this. Men explain the world to themselves. And with each other.
